Love. Simple. part 2

Simple. Let’s talk about the word simple. Life-altering simple.

Sometimes it’s difficult to actually be simple because you have to say no to most things.

Luke Chapter 18.  Look at verse 17, “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”  Many of us read this and think it’s beautiful, and yet we still strive. We still strive to get into the kingdom.

We don’t have to strive to get into the kingdom.

The Lord wants people to come to Him like little children.

If you are a busy person, it might feel harder to enter the kingdom in the midst of your busyness. It’s hard to spend time with the Lord in intimacy when you’re always going here and there and never stopping and always striving and always trying to earn.

Remember. He wants us to come to Him like little children.

A few months ago, our daughter Grey walked into my office with one of those walker/stroller things.  She’s strolling around the house, and she comes into my office. I’m reading and studying, listening to some music, and she comes in and she’s laughing and giggling.

We ended up watching a video together.  It was the simple, but really well made  “How He Loves” video with John Mark McMillan and several of his friends. A must watch.

Grey and I are watching (keep in mind that Grey was about 1o months old at the time) people in a circle and they’re worshipping and singing about how much God loves us.

I pick Grey up out of her walker chair thing, and I held her up to my face.  We were eye to eye, and I’m twirling around the room with her and we’re both laughing and she’s doing this giggle. And I’m thinking,
“I’m singing about how much God loves me as I’m having this moment with my daughter.” And it occurs to me (this isn’t a new thought. I’m sure many fathers have this thought)… She doesn’t have to do anything to earn love from me. There is absolutely nothing that she has ever done that is the reason I love her.

I simply love her because she’s my child.

There are plenty of things I love about her, but if those things  no longer existed, I would still love her.

If I, this limited, sinful person, have the ability to love this little tiny person this much, how much more does my Father in Heaven love me.” How great is the love that the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God? and that is what we are.

If we try to come to our Father thinking we can somehow earn it, we miss out on the blessing of this image.  The simple blessing of this image: our Father holding us and loving us as we cling to Him like desperate children.

Don’t be afraid, little flock, it’s the Father’s good pleasure to just give us the kingdom.

Why would we ever feel pressure to earn, when it’s His pleasure to give it to us? Why do we feel like we have to complicate things with so much busyness, striving, programs, committees…it’s His pleasure to give it to us. He wants us to come to Him like little children.

Would you come to Him like a child?

You don’t have to earn anything from Him.

You don’t have to earn ANYTHING from Him.

You don’t have to earn anything from your Father in Heaven.
